After visiting Simmons High School, I found
myself comparing my education at Park to that of the students in Hollandale.
The chaperones asked the question: What is a good school? My answer to this
question is a bit scattered, but that's simply because the ideals of an
education system are different for every student and are complicated. To me, a
good school is a school that inspires students to try new things and to have
the desire to learn. A good school challenges its students to an extent that is
reasonable and feeds and maintains an interest in the material. A good school
does its best to expose its students to experiences and ideas that are far from
their own. Its teachers are dedicated, understanding, and want success for
their students. A good school teaches students to be independent, to stand up
to injustices, and to question the things that they observe around them. A good
school will leave a student with good skills and work habits, not only
memorized facts that could soon be forgotten. A student from a good school will
graduate with personal assets and understandings of the world that will lead
them to success in their life beyond the walls of the classroom.
