No recognition

Throughout this trip I have seen many different places and heard the story of many different activists. The best part of the trip was that I was able to learn about the historical events that are not talked about, the people who do not receive recognition for their contributions to the movement, and the places that had an affect on the movement that were not preserved. Its sad to understand that although we learn about the major people in the movement the people who had smaller impacts on the movement are not heard about. Those who died marching, boycotting, and protesting will never be heard about unless they were placed on the news to gain attention in the movement. There are many unsung heroes that have stories that are not in the history textbooks. With the same concepts many of the places that MLK has made an impact on have been preserved for future generations to learn about. The thing that is overshadowed is that these other places are overlooked and not preserved. The store that Emmett Till was accused of whistling to a female of the opposite race has not been preserved. The story of Emmett Till is talked about in schools, but children will not be able to see a representation of where it happened. Unless they look at the dirt patch that will be left of the store over time they have nothing to reflect upon.
