One thing that my friends and I talked about
is staying active in Civil Rights after the trip is over. We talked about how
students who did not experience this trip will not feel the same as we do. It
is unarguable the degree to which we feel these emotions is only possible
through being here. Seeing the people, the sites, and the real life lack of
civil rights that still exists.
Racism is everywhere. Everyone has to get involved. As you read this, I do not encourage you to get involved in Civil Rights; I command you to do so as a citizen of the earth. People died for the right to vote; so vote. People died so everyone could be treated as an equal; so treat every person as an equal. Stand up for what is right and strike down what is unjust. Nobody is perfect, people have their own lives, but you cannot forget that life is an experience, and eventually yours will stop, but life itself does not. Think of your own life and the privileges that you enjoy. Everyone deserves that, and some people will never see the PRIVILEGE that is having a good life. Whoever you are, it's time to give back. The experience of life is the most central miracle that exists for us. Perpetuating it is my goal, and it should be yours too.
