Our generation is living through our
history, and what has been fought for during the movement. However, the fight is
not over. We still need to make a change. Our visit to Simmons High school was
great. Simmons is not the best educational school in Mississippi, but the
students are like family. As I walk through the hallway, I see a lack of
happiness and pride from the students. Some look ashamed of their school. Some
are willing to make a change in their school. One of the students said that the
food is horrible, and that the people that are in her grade now are the same
people who she's known since kindergarten. She also stated that you can not have a
phone in school. If you happen to get caught with one, you will get fined 25 dollars.
Every morning, they get striped down and checked. I couldn't believe what I was
hearing - here are innocent people like us. They are not prisoners, but that's how they felt.
