Assumptions

The information I gathered from the students that went on previous Civil Rights trips prompted me to assume that the students that I would meet at Simmons high school today would be sad and miserable young adults as a result of their environment and economic situations. Despite those preconceptions, those young adults were generally very happy with their life and looking forward to a college, career or goal that they were working towards. As I shadowed those seniors to their classes and cafeteria, I became aware of the fact that one does not necessarily have to be content with his/her life  but one has to be willing to make the best of it by striving for success in what ever form "success" represent for that person.

After our trip to Simmons High school and our visit to the National Civil Rights museum, we went to Beale  Street. This was an opportunity for me to be connected to the music, food and social atmosphere of Beale, Memphis and it was not only incredible like the rest of this trip but was a once in a lifetime opportunity and connection.
