I was born in Cameroon and lived
there for 12 years before I moved to the United States with my family in 2015.
Before my migration, I had this image of the United States as the land of
freedom, equality and liberty for all. But with each passing history class that
I take and with each passing person and historical landmark that I visit, these
preconceptions are broken and I am left instead with the reality that the
freedom that I imagined was allowed to all was only present for a single group
of people.
I am angry because of the fact that
those civil leaders like Martin Luther King, Andrew Young (which I had the
pleasure to meet in person) and thousand more sacrificed their lives to create
and better this nation but my generation is not taking advantage of those
opportunity and instead slaking.
But despite that anger, I am also
motivated thanks to the Civil Rights trip to use that knowledge that I have
gained to not only go back to my school and continued to lead the Agent for
Social club( created for students to freely discuss social problems and
possible solutions) but to make a difference in the work field that I choose to
join in the future.
